Maroon 5's new album, Red Pill Blues, features a song with Julia Michaels. “Help Me Out” is the colliding of two distinct styles of pop music and is somewhat different from what we usually here.

“Help Me Out” sounds like something out of an 80's retro video game. It starts with the main theme being played on electronic keyboard complimented by Adam’s high vocals.

Over the years, Maroon 5 has evolved so much from their hit single back in 2011, “Moved Like Jagger” to their most recent hit, “Don’t Wanna Know”. Fun Fact: The band has been together since 1994 and was originally named, “Kara’s Flowers.”

The band tends towards funky, electropop styles such as their unique use of synths and disco-like beats.

On the other hand, Julia Michaels is a young, new artist. However, her music is quite the opposite. I love her style because her lyrics are so honest and the music really captures that. She tends to use more acoustic instruments such as piano, acoustic guitar and violins.

“Help Me Out” has a mix of both styles in it, which is what makes it such a different song. Although it sticks with the funky, dance style of Maroon 5, Julia Michaels adds colour to the song with her amazing vocals and her signature syncopated beats.

Overall, the song is a throwback to 80's style music and is an interesting combination of old and new. Although it id a fun song to listen to, I would not say that it is something I would listen to on repeat.
