The Talented Brothers Behind Hit Song, “Starving” Releases New Single
Last year was a big one for the electronic-pop duo, Grey. With the debut of their hit collaboration, “Starving” featuring singer, Hailee Steinfield and German producer, Zedd, they were becoming recognized all over the world.
They recently released their new single, “These Roots,” which is a unique blend of rap and electronic music.
It starts off with a ballad-like melody on the piano featuring Stephen’s smooth vocals. The song reminded me of Kygo’s recent new single, “Stargazing.” (Read more about Kygo’s new album here: https://medium.com/p/27d81021d55e?source=linkShare-63b9eb67f594-1508791637)
The song talks about missing someone but that “nothing is sharp enough to cut me from these roots.” I liked the lyrics and how it went with the song because they are both catchy and very relatable.
There are some strange sound effects and key changes in certain places, and in one part, they change to rap for about two lines and switch back to singing. I found it odd how that idea was not expanded upon or repeated in another section of the song.
Their EP, Chameleon is out now and features several artists including Avril Lavigne, Asia and Skott.
