St. Vincent (aka Annie Clark) recently released her new single, “New York” and is currently on a world tour.

In St. Vincent’s heartfelt new ballad, “New York”, the song hints towards her feelings about her relationship with English fashion model and actress, Cara Delevigne. They recently split but got back together a few months later and are rumoured to be engaged.

The song’s lyrics are very sincere and deeply passionate. In the first line, she sings, “New York isn’t New York. Without you, love.” But my favourite line is in the chorus, where she says “I have lost a hero, I have lost a friend, But for you, darling, I’d do it all again.” There is a sort of intimacy and touching mood to the song.

“New York” is very driven by the repeated bass beats and syncopated piano chords, which interact and accompany the vocal line with dotted rhythms. This creates a calming and non-overwhelming atmosphere.

On another note, St. Vincent has a very unique voice and style which takes the listener back to the 80’s. Her voice is very nostalgic and sweet, like summer memories.
