Our Queen, Halsey is Back With A Hot New Single
Ever since Halsey and rapper, G-Eazy split back in July, she’s been having a rough time on tour. The pair got back together at the end of the summer and everything seems to be going well. Of course, that wasn’t before Halsey wrote a song about the breakup because what better way to get over someone than to write a song?
Halsey’s new single, “Without Me,” is exotic, supernatural and moving. The song takes a slow moving ballad and combines it with a trap beat to create a powerful, eerie vibe.
The song starts with a striking riff played by the guitar with chopped echoes of Halsey’s voice like ghosts in the background.
When she starts singing, everything feels familiar; the way her voice flows across the melody, the beauty of the words connecting together and the powerful accents when the beat comes in.
Just from reading the lyrics, you can tell that she poured her heart into this song. In the first verse, she sings, “Took it too far to keep you close […] And then I got you off your knees, put you right back on your feet just so you could take advantage of me.” The whole song is beautifully written, but the lyrics are particularly moving and emotional. In an interview with Apple Music, she talks about how these lyrics differed from her lyrics in o be of her older songs, “Hurricane,” which goes like this: “I’m a wanderess, a one-night stand, don’t belong to no city, don’t belong to no man.” She goes on to say that although that has always been her motto, she finds herself in a different situation now that she feels strongly in love.
The song is definately extremely personal and the lyrics spell out all the pain that she has gone through, but it’s also a beautiful piece of art that many people can relate to.
In the cover for “Without Me,” Halsey is seen as herself with no wig, no costume or anything. Halsey, who’s task name is Ashley, explains that this is because she is writing as herself rather than the. character that she made up named ‘Halsey’.
This, of course, is a single, but it’s also the first song Halsey has put out since her 2017 album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom.
