Kygo’s New EP, “Stargazing” is Out Now
Last week, Kygo released his new EP, “Stargazing” which included his hit singles, “It Ain’t Me” featuring Selena Gomez and “First Time” featuring Ellie Goulding. His tropical style mixes are catchy and revolutionary to the electronic dance music scene.
The EP features five original songs, “Stargazing” featuring Justin Jesso, radio hit, “It Ain’t Me”, “First Time”, “This Town” featuring Sasha Sloan, and collaboration with U2, “You’re the Best Thing About Me”.
However, the first week of sales was devastating, only selling 37 copies in the U.S. alone. Many fans were not captivated by the heavily piano-reliant harmonies and “chopped” vocal samples.
After listening to the EP, however, I believe that it is highly underrated. Each song was carefully written and produced. The lyrics are very meaningful and unique. For example, in a video, Ellie Goulding and Kygo talk about the meaning behind the lyrics of “First Time”. It describes the feeling of falling in love for the first time, and the song captures that feeling very well.
My favourite song from the album is probably “This Town” featuring Sasha Sloan. The melody is slower and more tranquil than some of the other songs in the EP. Sasha has a very intriguing voice that echos with the piece very well.
