American singer-songwriter, Charlie Puth had everyone’s attention (haha see what I did there?) as he reveals the second song in his upcoming album, VoiceNotes.

In June, Puth announced that the album would be called VoiceNotes because he wrote much of it on his phone’s voice memos.

At the end of his music video for his hit single, “Attention,” he plays the original track that sparked the idea for his popular song, which peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100.

He recently released the second song in the album, “How Long.” Similar to “Attention,” “How Long” features an 80's retro feel with a medium tempo and soft-soul punk vibe.

When I first heard “How Long,” the stylistic similarities between the two songs made it seem less special. They both feature the same heavy bass lines and repetitive drum patterns.

In a video, Puth explains that the song was about him apologizing to a girl for being unfaithful. He goes on to say that many people can relate to this song as many people have experienced being cheated on by their partners.

Overall, although it is understandable that he is trying to develop his own style, but the songs are way too similar to the point where they can sometimes be indistinguishable.

Charlie Puth’s new album, VoiceNotes will be out this Fall.
